How Often Should You Repot?
Most houseplants benefit from repotting every 1โ2 years in spring. Fast-growers like pothos and philodendrons may need annual repotting. Slow-growers like snake plants and ZZ plants can stay in the same pot for 3โ5 years. Never repot a plant that's stressed, recently moved, or in active bloom.
How Much Bigger Should the New Pot Be?
The standard rule is to go up by 1โ2 inches in diameter (2โ4 inches for larger plants). Going too large is a common mistake โ excess soil retains too much moisture and can cause root rot. The roots should comfortably fill their new home within one growing season.
